Unlocking Your Emotional Intelligence: A Journey to Self-Discovery ✨

I have been experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions lately, and am incredibly grateful to have tools and strategies that help me navigate them. Today, we will dive into this a little deeper.

MOOD MASTERY


So often we let our emotions get the best of us…

  • Have you ever reacted abruptly to a situation, or a loved one, only to regret it a few hours later?

  • Have you ever felt so overwhelmed with a situation, or even the news and world events, and knew no other way to deal than to withdraw?

  • Have you resorted to one-too-many drinks or indulgent snacks after a big day?

 

We’ve all been there! The key question is, though, what do you do about it? Do you actively work on yourself to master your emotions, or do you ignore the problems and hope they will go away?



For a long time, my answer to this question was the latter… Until I understood the importance of emotional intelligence.



Here are some key reasons why it’s important to work on our emotional intelligence:


Enhanced Self-Awareness

They say awareness is the first step towards growth, right? Well, being aware of your emotions helps you understand what’s going on inside you, how your body responds to these emotions, and any engrained automatic behaviours or impulses you may have to them.


Improved Relationships

Strong emotional intelligence doesn’t just benefit you, it benefits those around you, and as a result, also your relationships! You become better equipped at communication, empathy, and can navigate conflicts constructively, whether at home or work.


Stress Management and Resilience

When you have a strong emotional intelligence muscle, you can adapt to change, handle pressure, and bounce back from setbacks more effectively. Personally, The Method (which I teach in my Personal Mentorship Program) has changed my life in this area.

WELLNESS WISDOM


Today's Wellness Wisdom features some alarming stats:

  • Global stress maintains a record high: US, Canada, and East Asia at 52%, Europe at 39%.

    • Unless we as a community start to address this head-on, we will only continue to see these numbers rising.


  • 1 in 5 New Zealand workers report ALWAYS or often being STRESSED by work.

    • This was me, every single minute of the day until I learned how to master my emotions.


  • 24% of adults in APA’s Stress in America ™ Survey rated their average stress between 8-10 (on a scale where 1 = little to no stress, and 10 = a great deal of stress), which is up +19% since 2019.

    • Stress has a plethora of negative consequences on our multidimensional wellbeing… this is 1 in 4 people in a room that we’re talking about!

    • Imagine how different our lives, and the world we live in would be if we started to change this, one person at a time.


  • In the same survey, nearly half of the respondents said they wish they had someone to help manage their stress, and 62% don’t talk about it because they don’t want to burden others.

    • As a Health Coach and Emotional Intelligence Coach, this one is just heart-breaking…

Striking a healthy balance between work and personal life is essential for mental and emotional wellbeing, as excessive work-related stress can lead to burnout and negatively impact overall health.
